It's been two weeks since I fell.

I was planning to "air-dry" the wounds, letting scabs form, etc...but about a week in, I was feeling very restricted in how I could use my hands, and things like showers were still annoying because I didn't want to ruin the scabs. But mostly I wanted my hands back.

So I did some reading online, and apparently covering scrapes/cuts and keeping them moist makes them heal much quicker. It seems scabs impede new cell growth, and can cause worse scarring.

Last night was my first time riding at night this year.

I was cutting across a parking lot I've taken lots of times, but unlike most of downtown, it's very poorly-lit. I was moving along pretty fast, when suddenly my bike kicked up from under me. It was enough to throw me off, and do some damage. The bike still works technically, though I tore the gear cable so I'm stuck in the hardest-to-pedal gear...which, I guess is the one you want to be stuck in.

gross pics under cut - you were warned )

So I was gonna let them heal on their own, but sleeping last night was awkward, to say the very least. But the pain in my hands was annoying. I just bought and put on giant bandaids with triple-antibiotic polysporin...and it hurts more! No fair!

Sorry if responses are slow, don't feel much like typing today.

I've been biking to work recently, because of the amount of construction on King Street. To take transit, they've replaced part of the streetcar route with buses, meaning I have to transfer partway home. Plus the construction makes for incredibly slow traffic. One night when it was raining it took me 2 hours to get home. I can walk it in 1.5 hours.

This week Jasna [info]thewebmistress is in town again, which of course means more hair dying fun. If you saw the pics in my last post I was in dire need of it. I also convinced her that going out to Dance Cave was somehow a good idea.

Yesterday I met up with a friend of mine, [info]thewebmistress, who happened to be in town in between getting ready for her finals. She's recently dyed her hair bright pink, and has had me thinking of doing something similar with the mohawk.

So, on a whim, she came by yesterday to give me a hand with the whole process:

In the interests of posting more about my life, I should probably make a post when something interesting, to me, happens. Non-nerds might want to back out now.

Okay, so, everyone's been linking to the Avatar Generator, but I know a lot of my friends aren't so digitally inclined to know what to do to actually save the image.

Anyway, I threw together a tutorial on how to do this using nothing more than MS Paint.

If you find any problems with it, lemme know.

Luv,

Internet only seems to work for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. They're sending a technician out tomorrow.

UPDATE(for hostees): It seems to have actually been almost *solid* for the past half hour, if it persists, I'll put the webserver back up at 4:30ish)

Tracking camera trained on shuttle detected damage to the wing prior to breakup

One of the scarier exerpts from this article:

"No matter what the investigations show, there are no apparent credible crew survival options for the failure Columbia experienced. With the ISS out of reach in a far different orbit, there were no credible rescue options if even if wing damage had been apparent before reentry -- which it was not."

In related news, Russia is suspending its space tourist program, which means of course, we're indefinitely stuck with Lance Bass.
